The Suzuki Philosophy

  • Every child can learn to play and that the study of music contributes to development of the whole child.
  • The Suzuki Triangle:
    • The teacher works with the child in lessons, coaches and advises the parent.
    • The parent becomes the home teacher, takes notes during the lessons and practices with the student and plays the CD.
    • The child listens to the CD, attends lessons, group classes and practices at home.
  • Overlapping and group lessons: children learn from each other and enjoy learning together.Teaching of small steps, single pointed lessons and constant review ensures mastery of the repertoire.

Suzuki Expectations:

  • Students are expected to listen to the CD every day: if the child has an auditory model of how their music sounds, their practice will be self-correcting.
  • Lessons consist of a thirty-minute private lesson and one Saturday group lesson per week.
  • The parent or supervising adult begins taking lessons first.
  • The child will begin taking lessons when the parent has completed playing the first Twinkle variation successfully.
  • First time Suzuki parents will attend the Saturday parent training class for the first semester.
  • After the parent has completed first semester parent class, the child will begin attending Saturday group classes.
  • The parent and child sign up to observe private and group lessons as soon as possible.

Recitals:

  • I have one studio recital per semester.
  • We have department recitals through out the school year.
  • We end the year with a Spring Group recital
